Privacy Policy
How Africa Food Show Kenya handles personal data
Template notice — for legal review. This privacy policy is a clean working draft written for Africa Food Show Kenya. It is not legal advice and must be reviewed and approved by the organiser's legal adviser, who should confirm the identity of the data controller, the retention periods, the lawful bases relied on and the local supervisory authority before this page is published. It was written from scratch for this event: the original site's policy text is not reproduced, because it is shared across other MIE Events shows.
Who we are
Africa Food Show Kenya is organised by MIE Events FZCO, part of MIE Groups (the “organiser”, “we”, “us”). References to the event mean the exhibition and conference taking place 27-29 October 2027 at the Bomas Convention Centre, Nairobi, Kenya, together with the co-located Agro Africa, The Hotel Expo Kenya (THX) and FoodPack Africa events.
For any question about this policy or about your personal data, contact the organiser using the details on the Contact Us page.
What this policy covers
This policy explains how we handle personal data collected through this website and in connection with the event, including when you:
- register to visit the event;
- submit an exhibiting, sponsorship or partnership enquiry;
- apply to speak or submit a conference proposal;
- subscribe to event updates;
- contact us by e-mail, telephone or through a form on this site.
What we collect
Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect:
- Identity and contact details — name, job title, company, country, e-mail address and telephone number.
- Registration details — the participation type you select (visitor, exhibitor, speaker, partner), your areas of interest, and any access or dietary requirements you tell us about.
- Business information — the products, sectors or services you buy or supply, so that we can match exhibitors and buyers.
- Communications — the content of messages you send us and our replies.
- Technical data — IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed and similar information collected through cookies and similar technologies, as described in our Cookies Policy.
Please do not send us special-category data (for example health information) unless we ask for it, and never send payment card details by e-mail.
How we use it
We use personal data to:
- process your registration and issue your badge or stand allocation;
- operate the B2B matchmaking programme and arrange meetings you request;
- answer enquiries and provide the information you ask for;
- send event updates, programme announcements and related information, where you have agreed to receive them;
- manage the conference programme, including speaker correspondence;
- plan and improve the event, including attendance analysis;
- meet our legal, accounting, safety and security obligations.
Lawful bases
Where data protection law requires us to identify a lawful basis, we rely on one or more of the following: performance of a contract or steps taken at your request (processing your registration or stand booking); our legitimate interests (running and promoting a trade exhibition, B2B matchmaking and event security); your consent (marketing e-mails and non-essential cookies); and compliance with legal obligations.
Sharing
We share personal data only as far as necessary, and with:
- service providers who support the event, such as the registration platform, badge printing, hosting, e-mail delivery and analytics providers, acting on our instructions;
- co-located event organisers and group companies within MIE Groups, for the purpose of running the co-located events and a single registration experience;
- exhibitors and partners, but only where you have asked to be matched with them or where you have agreed to your details being shared;
- authorities, insurers or advisers, where we are required or permitted to do so by law.
We do not sell personal data.
International transfers
The event is delivered by an international group with offices in several countries, and some service providers may process data outside Kenya. Where that happens, we require appropriate safeguards to be in place.
Retention
We keep personal data for as long as it is needed for the purposes above, then delete or anonymise it. Registration and exhibitor records are typically retained for the period needed to run the event and to meet legal and accounting requirements, after which marketing permissions are refreshed or removed.
Your rights
Subject to applicable law, you may have the right to request access to your personal data, to have inaccurate data corrected, to have data erased, to restrict or object to certain processing, to receive data in a portable form, and to withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent. To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details on the Contact Us page. You also have the right to complain to the relevant data protection authority — in Kenya, the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner.
Marketing
You can unsubscribe from event updates at any time using the link in the e-mail, or by contacting us. Unsubscribing from marketing does not stop service messages about a registration or stand booking you have made.
Security
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against unauthorised access, loss or alteration. No transmission over the internet is completely secure, so please consider how you send us information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The version published on this page is the current one, and material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
